As some of you know before I was a Bowman, I was a Camper. This name that I was born with has always meant a lot to me. It was passed down to me by my dad, and my grandfather before that. In the town of Westcliffe, the name ‘Camper’ is a well-known name, and this all stems from a homestead where it all began. The property is still part of a working ranch owned by my dad’s cousin, Trina, but the original buildings have not been lived in for many years.
Elton would have been my great great uncle, and was the uncle of my grandfather, Harvey ‘Bud’ Camper. I feel so fortunate that such an important part of my family history is still around to visit and enjoy. Want to explore more abandoned Colorado? You can! Here, here, and here.
